چکیده

This article is concerned with an oceanographic model describing the asymptotic behaviour of a rapidly rotating and incompressible fluid with an inhomogeneous rotation vector; the motion takes place in a thin layer. We first exhibit a stationary solution of the system which consists of an interior part and a boundary layer part. The spatial variations of the rotation vector generate strong singularities within the boundary layer, which have repercussions on the interior part of the solution. The second part of the article is devoted to the analysis of two-dimensional and three-dimensional waves. It is shown that the thin layer effect modifies the propagation of three-dimensional Poincaré waves by creating small scales. Using tools of semi-classical analysis, we prove that the energy propagates at speeds of order one, i.e. much slower than in traditional rotating fluid models.

Mathematical Study of Rotating Fluids with Resonant Surface Stress Anne-laure Dalibard and Laure Saint-raymond

We are interested here in describing the linear response of a highly rotating fluid to some surface stress tensor, which admits fast time oscillations and may be resonant with the Coriolis force. In addition to the usual Ekman layer, we exhibit another much larger boundary layer, and we prove that for large times, the effect of the surface stress may no longer be localized in the vicinity of th...

Asymptotic Behavior of a Rapidly Rotating Fluid with Random Stationary Surface Stress

Abstract. The goal of this paper is to describe in mathematical terms the effect on the ocean circulation of a random stationary wind stress at the surface of the ocean. In order to avoid singular behaviour, non-resonance hypotheses are introduced, which ensure that the time frequencies of the wind-stress are different from that of the Earth rotation. We prove a convergence result for a three-d...

Abstract. We are interested here in describing the linear response of the ocean to some wind forcing, which admits fast time oscillations and may be resonant with the Coriolis force. In addition to the usual Ekman layer, we exhibit another much larger boundary layer, and some global vertical profile. That means in particular that the wind effect is no longer localized in the vicinity of the sur...

Variational convergences of dual energy functionals for elastic materials with a thin strong inclusion

We give a new derivation, based on the complementary energy formulation, of a simplified model for a multi-structure made up of two anisotropic hyper-elastic bodies connected by a thin strong material layer. The model is obtained by identifying the Mosco-limit of the stored complementary energy functional when the thickness is of order ε and the stiffness of order 1/ε where ε is a positive real...

On the propagation of oceanic waves driven by a strong macroscopic flow

In this work we study oceanic waves in a shallow water flow subject to strong wind forcing and rotation, and linearized around a inhomogeneous (non zonal) stationary profile. This extends the study [1], where the profile was assumed to be zonal only and where explicit calculations were made possible due to the 1D setting. Here the diagonalization of the system, which allows to identify Rossby a...
